Out-Spoken invites the UK's leading poets, rappers and musicians to share their art at a monthly showcase.

Peter The Temp is a loop artist and spoken word poet. His work has been featured on BBC Newsnight, World Service and Radio 4. he is a former UK National Poetry Slam Champion and has toured a one man show ‘Pete (the Temp) vs Climate Change’. Pete has performed at over 20 Uk festivals. In 2014 he toured with Slamboree, performing to audiences of over 3000 people. In 2015 he did doing a TED talk in London about his work as a spoken word educator. He has toured in 8 European countries with the British Council and others. 2016 saw the release of his first book Numbered Boxes.

Salena Nuwulu is a writer, social researcher and campaigner with a focus on social and environmental justice, education and global politics. She has also recently finished her tenure as Young Poet Laureate for London.

Salena has worked in a number of social policy roles for not for profit organisations including UN Women, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Capacity Global (an environmental think tank) and currently at the RSA.

John Hegley was born in Newington Green, North London, and was educated in Luton, Bristol and Bradford University. His first public performance monies came from busking his songs. He performed on the streets of London in the early Eighties, fronting the Popticians, with whom he also recorded two sessions for John Peel, and has since been a frequent performer of his words, sung and spoken, on both local and national radio.

He has produced ten books of verse and prose pieces, two CDs and one mug, but his largest source of income is from stages on his native island. An Edinburgh Festival regular, he is noted for his exploration of such diverse topics as dog hair, potatoes, handkerchieves and the misery of human existence.

He is an occasional DJ, dancer and workshop leader, using drawing, poetry and gesture. He has been awarded an honorary Doctorate of Arts from what is now the University of Bedfordshire, and once performed in a women's prison in Columbia.

Eliza Shaddad is of Sudanese and Scottish descent, a writer and performer of arresting ability; blending intricate guitar patterns with a stunningly forthright voice. Winding between blues, folk, and jazz she has played across the UK supporting the likes of Michael Chapman, Rue Royale and Finley Quaye, and released her first record in March 2012 to first-rate reviews, blog support and radio support.

As a vocalist and writer with the collective Clean Bandit she has appeared on their EP 'UK Shanty', and subsequently Channel 4, XFM and Radio 1, in addition to live dates supporting Redlight, Rudimental, SBTRKT, and in January 2013; Mercury Prize-winners Alt-J at their sold-out Shepherd’s Bush Empire shows.

Nia Ekanem Nia is a singer/ song writer whose music has been described as Acoustic Soul, but he prefers the title ‘Organic’. His songs, written straight from the heart, are sweet to the ears of listeners especially when accompanied by the sound of his acoustic guitar.

At the age of 13, he began learning keyboard before expanding on his musical knowledge by learning other instruments such as the guitar and the drums as the years went by. Despite evidently having the gift of singing, in his teenage years he also had an interest in rap which led to him having memorable performances at renowned venues such as the Indig02 in London and Symphony Hall in Birmingham, amongst many others while in an urban rap ground called L4C. While in L4C, he capitalised on his gift of singing by switching from a rapper/singer into solely being a singer, and when the group disbanded in 2011 he was able to see music as something he was passionate about.
