19:00 - 23:00
Live Music
Over 14s only. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

A gospel celebration for Easter in two sizzling acts! Original script by Ellen Havard based on the gospel accounts of Luke and John, eighteen seasonal contemporary gospel anthems ranging from the lyrical (Kirk Franklin’s “Don’t Cry”, Trey Mclaughlin’s arrangement of “Lord I Lift”) to the turbocharged (Tonex’s “Since Jesus Came”, Marvin Sapp’s “Standing On The Rock”) plus original songs (including Tracey Campbell’s “Could It Be”).

Tracey will be joined on stage by more than twenty singers, featuring several of London Gospel’s finest, and by narrator Stacey Ghent. In the pit, a hard-working six-piece band, bouncing between soul, R’n’B, funk, latin and rock. The perfect conclusion to the Bank Holiday.

Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir was founded in 2005 as a church choir on the premise that contemporary gospel is the most exciting and Spirit-filled music being created in churches today. Soul Sanctuary’s mission is to lift soul and spirit by bringing the very best of contemporary gospel, which itself draws on soul, funk, R’n’B, jazz, latin and modern classical, into the centre of Christian worship in Britain, making no compromises on quality in composition, arrangement, performance and production.

Through the joy and beauty of the music and its Christian message, the choir’s aim is to be a force for real and positive change in the lives of those who hear it. It seeks to make Christian worship accessible, joyful, and welcoming to newcomers both inside and outside church; and to bring its compelling choral sound to music venues outside the church.

The choir is based in two central London churches, Farm Street Church, Mayfair, and St James’s Church Piccadilly, and has sung in well over a hundred other churches including the cathedrals of St Paul’s, Westminster and Birmingham. Outside church it has performed at the 606 Jazz Club in Chelsea and the Jazz Café in Camden, and has appeared at many festivals over the years (eg. Big Church Day Out, Wilderness, Marlborough Jazz Festival). Meanwhile Soul Sanctuary has been featured regularly on BBC Radio 2 and Radio 4, on BBC London Live and Premier Radio, and have shared a concert platform with Eric Clapton Roger Taylor & Jeff Beck.

Soul Sanctuary is proud of its eclecticism and diversity, and has numbered in its ranks name singers from musical theatre, jazz, session and pop/rock as well as gospel.

" far as I'm concerned, Soul Sanctuary have the best gospel choir sound in Britain at the moment"

"Soul Sanctuary sing like angels on fire!"

"This choir are undoubtedly one of the most gifted and innovative choirs on the music scene today. They are talented, hard working and their commitment and quality leads to a first class performance - every time."

Tracey Campbell, a founding director of Soul Sanctuary in 2005, is one of London’s leading gospel vocalists – and in gospel terms, London ranks alongside the USA’s greatest gospel cities. Her list of singing credits spans both Christian and secular worlds (Mariah Carey, Jimmy Cliff, Elton John, Madonna, Javine, Lionel Richie, Brand New Heavies, Will Young, Cece Winans, Noel Robinson & nu image). She is also a prolific songwriter and is about to release an album of songs dealing with the subject of personal redemption. Her performances are always filled with inspiration and faith, and her own brand of infectious joie de vivre.

Ellen Havard is an up-and-coming theatre director who sang in Soul Sanctuary for several years; she has been based at both The National Theatre and the Oxford Playhouse, and has worked in many other theatres and contexts besides. Stacey Ghent is a busy actor and musical theatre performer with an impressive list of stage and TV credits, including Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas, Julie Atherton and ITV’s Breathless.
